CEPOL Exchange programme 2011

European Police College CEPOL is a European Union (EU) Agency, established in 2005. CEPOL's mission is to bring together senior police officers from police forces in Europe - essentially to support the development of a network - and encourage cross-border cooperation in the fight against crime, public security and law and order by organising training activities and research findings.

State police Forensic Service Department deputy director Liga Peisniece attended the European Police College exchange program “CEPOL Exchange Programme 2011”. The program aims is to gain experience in police departments or police training institutions in the EU Member States.

From August 15th till August 26th 2011 deputy director Liga Peisniece was attending Forensic Institute of Romania in Bucharest, Romania. Main topics discussed during the visit included acknowledging the structure of State police of Romania and status of Forensic Investigation Bureau in this system, functions of forensic experts and laws that regulate their work.

Since the exchange programme provides not only an EU Member State institution visits, but also to host colleagues from other EU accession countries, from August 29 to September 10, 2011 State Police Forensic Service Department management welcomed guest from State police of Romania Forensic Institute Mr. Valentin Epure. Mr. Epure was introduced with work of Forensic Service Department and work of regional bureaus.

Exchange visits have established cooperation between the State Police Forensic Service Department of Latvia and the Romanian Police Forensic Science Institute. The decision was taken in the coming years to participate in further CEPOL exchange programs to educate experts and gain better knowledge and contacts in the same fields of interest.
